Yahoo Lifestyle People Are Obsessed With Kieran Culkin And Jeremy Strong’s Wildly Different Reactions To Their Oscar Nominations
In case you missed it, this year’s Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, and two of Succession’s Roy brothers will be facing off against one another.
Yep, as anticipated, Kieran Culkin, who played Roman Roy in the hit HBO show, and Jeremy Strong, who played Kendall Roy, are both included in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Kieran has been nominated for his performance in A Real Pain, and Jeremy for The Apprentice. The other nominees are Yura Borisov for Anora, Edward Norton for A Complete Unknown, and Guy Pearce for The Brutalist.
It’s worth mentioning that Kieran and Jeremy’s performances previously went up against each other at this year’s Golden Globes, and Kieran ultimately ended up taking home the award.
And while Succession fans couldn’t be more excited to see the two actors from the show be given such prestigious industry recognition this year, many couldn’t help but notice the stark difference between Kieran and Jeremy’s reactions to their nominations, which actually seemed to be in keeping with their characters on the show.
After the nominations were announced, Jeremy issued a statement through his rep that read: “This morning’s nomination is indescribably meaningful to me. This film has been an uphill battle every step of the way and faced inestimable resistance on every front. It feels absolutely miraculous to me that both Sebastian [Stan] and I were recognized.”
“Roy Cohn’s long, dark shadow was hanging over the Capitol Rotunda on Monday and his legacy of aggression, misinformation and untruth is now a Kingdom Come,” he went on. “This is a harrowing and courageous film that explores how we got to where we are today and was the role of a lifetime.”
Jeremy also provided a childhood photo of himself outside of the 65th Academy Awards back in 1993. He shared: “Today’s nomination is, without overstatement, a realization of a lifelong dream. I remember spending the night on cold metal bleachers outside the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in 1993 with my father to watch the actors and actresses arrive at the 65th Academy Awards.”
“I remember being unable to sleep because of how exciting it was to be close to that world. I have not lost that feeling of excitement; I feel it every time I go to set or drive onto a lot or begin rehearsals,” Jeremy concluded. “I have devoted my life to the attempt to do genuine work that would be worthy of this honor. I am filled with amazement and flooded with emotion and with deep gratitude to my peers in the Academy.”
Meanwhile, Kieran’s wife, Jazz Charton, shared a photo of Kieran celebrating his nomination to her Instagram story.
“Let’s fucking gooooooo,” she wrote on the picture of Kieran pouring champagne into two glasses while standing on a balcony in Paris, France.
This is Kieran’s only public reaction to the news, and he has not issued any official statements.
Social media users were quick to acknowledge the differing responses, with one user quote-tweeting a Deadline post about Jeremy’s earnest statement, and sharing a screenshot of Jazz’s Instagram story.
They wrote: “Kieran Culkin has also released a statement on his Oscar nomination in the category, via his wife's Instagram.”
The post immediately caused a stir online, and has already had over 18k likes and retweets.
“succession casting could not have been more correct,” one popular reply reads. Somebody else joked: “Kieran Culkin's statement is heartfelt and sincere.”
Another user wrote: “I love Jeremy but this is so effing funny.”
