Parents picking baby names so they'll 'stand out' on Instagram


It’s one of the first hurdles parents have to face when they welcome a baby into the world.

But according to an expert, people are now naming their kids based on how popular their name will l be on social media.

Baby name expert Sherri Suzanne, who runs the My Name For Life website, claims parents aren’t going for common names so their kid will fit in, but they’re actually choosing monikers that’ll make them stand out online.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Sheri said this year, the most popular names on social media are Bentley, Paisley, Eva and Ada, among others.

“I caution parents that in an effort to make children stand out, they can also make it harder to fit in,” she warned.

“Resist picking names that form jokes, puns, rhymes, or phrases that have strong negative associations.

“In an attempt to express individuality, it’s best not to create obscure and convoluted spellings.”

According to Babycenter, the top girls’ name so far this year is Olivia, followed closely by Emma, Ava, Isabella and Sophia.

The top boys’ names are Noah, Liam, Elijah, Oliver and Lucas.
