Pamela Anderson 'Almost Got Killed on a Plane' After a Passenger Mistook Her for a Member of The Chicks

Pamela Anderson is still bewildered by the time a plane passenger thought she was a member of The Chicks.

While Anderson, 57, appeared on the Monday, Jan. 6 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote her movie The Last Showgirl with director Gia Coppola, the actress shared that a man once confronted her angrily on a flight and had to be restrained over his vitriol for the Texas-based country band.

"One time, I was on a flight and this guy came up to me and said, 'Do you know what this country's done for you?' And I was like, 'Oh my God, what have I done?' " Anderson said when host Josh Horowitz asked her if she had ever been mistaken for another celebrity.

"I would look back at him and he would be like, 'Grrr,' and I'd be like, 'Oh my God,' " she added. "And then this stewardess had to handcuff him to the chair because he was trying to attack me. It ended up he thought I was a Dixie Chick."

Anderson's reveal drew laughter from Horowitz, Coppola and the live audience at Happy Sad Confused, which was recorded at New York City's 92NY. "Remember that whole Dixie Chick thing? Yeah. I almost got killed on a plane," she said.

The Chicks, who were known as The Dixie Chicks from 1989 until 2020, faced significant public backlash in the 2000s for sharing their disapproval of the U.S.'s war in Iraq during a March 10, 2003 concert in London, days before the U.S. and allied forces invaded the country. During that concert, lead singer Natalie Maines stated the group was "ashamed" that then-president George W. Bush "is from Texas."

"That's only like the 400th most weird thing that's happened in your life, to be fair," podcast host Horowitz told Anderson after she shared the anecdote. "Yeah, that's minor. I was scared to fly after that a little bit, but you know."

The Last Showgirl follows Anderson as Shelly, a veteran Las Vegas showgirl whose future grows uncertain when her show abruptly closes after 30 years. She costars in the movie with Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd, Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song.

“I just wanted it to be raw and real, and I was ready for that and prepared for that and excited about that," Anderson recently told PEOPLE of why she decided not to wear makeup in the film, save for when her character performs on stage.

The Last Showgirl is in theaters everywhere Jan. 10.
