Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan have played Outlander‘s Claire and Jamie Fraser for a decade now, which means a heck of a lot of time in each other’s company, bringing life to the time-travel romance’s central couple.

So when TVLine and our sister site SheKnows had the Outlander cast in its New York City studio for a photo shoot, we sat down with the pair for a quick check-in about where the Frasers have been and where they’re going as the Starz series moves toward its Season 7 finale. The evening before our chat, at the show’s PaleyFest panel, the cast — Balfe and Heughan, along with Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin and John Bell — had spoken with great warmth about their years as an ensemble. The lovefest got us to thinking: When were the people behind Mr. and Mrs. Fraser proudest of each other during their time on set?
“Oh God, there’s lots,” Balfe answers in the video above, which quickly turns into a mutual-admiration society meeting. “I could probably pick multiple from each season!” She calls out Heughan’s performances near the end of Season 1, when Jamie was held captive at Wentworth Prison by Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall.
“I had to watch part of it again recently, and I hadn’t seen it since it aired 10 years ago,” she continues. “I was just blown away. I was blown away by how amazing you were in it.”

That feeling carried through in the last year, when Balfe tried her hand at directing the series; the episode she helmed will air in the upcoming eighth and final season. She recalls being in awe while overseeing a scene between Heughan and Bell: “It was just so beautifully done, and when I was watching it, I was like, ‘That is why every woman falls in love with Jamie Fraser.'”
