“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” promises summer premiere date in first teaser

The hotly anticipated "Outlander" prequel has dropped its first teaser trailer, along with the announcement that it will debut some time this summer.

Turns out the droughtlander might be shorter than we thought.

On Thursday morning, Starz dropped the first teaser trailer for their upcoming prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. While the second part of season 7 of the mothership show, Outlander, is set to drop its season finale on Friday, Starz isn't making fans wait for news of more of the kilt-y pleasure.

“I have decided to call you my hope,” says Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), Claire’s father, presumably to Claire’s mother, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) in the opening moments of the teaser.

According to the trailer, the prequel series will be coming to television this summer. Though not officially stated, it seems likely that will mean it airs prior to the eighth and final season of Outlander. Blood of My Blood is set to have ten episodes in its first season.

"Two love stories connected by time, loyalty, desire, passion, destiny," the teaser promises, flashing over scenes of World War I trench warfare; war nurse, Julia, hiding under a hospital bed; and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) catching glimpses of each other through slats in a wooden fence.

As previously announced, the prequel series will follow the dual love stories of the parents of Outlander's central couple, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan). In the Highlands of 18th-century Scotland, Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, forge their unexpected romance; while Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, experience a war-time love cast against the backdrop of World War I.

Outlander fans will also get the opportunity to see the younger version of some familiar characters, including Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Rory Alexander), Mrs. Fitz (Sally Messham), Ellen’s siblings, Colum (Séamus McLean Ross) and Dougal (Sam Retford) MacKenzie. Jamie’s aunt, Jocasta Cameron (Sadhbh Malin), will also appear, as well as legal advisor, Ned Gowan (Conor MacNeill) and Brian’s father, the infamous Lord Lovat, Simon Fraser (Tony Curran).

"We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples," Roberts previously said in a statement. "The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie."
