Oscars 2025: The Complete List Of Nominees

The 2025 awards season is officially underway with Thursday’s nominations for the Oscars.

Nominations for the 97th annual Academy Awards were announced early Thursday at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles by “Saturday Night Live” standout Bowen Yang, who starred in this year’s “Wicked,” and writer-actor Rachel Sennott, who starred in “Saturday Night.”

The announcements arrived after a devastating month for Southern Californians, as the ongoing wildfires in the region have placed tens of thousands of people under mandatory evacuation orders and untold numbers of residents have lost their homes.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer told the Los Angeles Times last week that after “consultation with ABC, our board” and major stakeholders in the industry, “we have made the carefully considered decision to proceed with the 97th Oscars ceremony as planned on March 2.”

The Academy did extend the voting period and postponed its announcements by several days, as some of its members are among the affected. Some people called on the Academy to cancel the upcoming ceremony entirely, but the show is slated to go on — with a lot of competition in play now.

“Emilia Pérez” is leading in all categories with a whopping 13 nominations, including a first-time nod for actor Zoe Saldaña. “The Brutalist” follows with 10 nominations, including three in the acting categories for Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and 2003 Oscar winner Adrien Brody.

“Wicked” earned 10 nominations, including a surprise first-time nod for star Ariana Grande, while “Conclave” and “A Complete Unknown” each earned eight — including a second-ever Oscar nod for Timothée Chalamet, who learned how to sing and play guitar to portray Bob Dylan in the film.

Among the biggest surprises are “Emilia Pérez” actor Karla Sofía Gascón becoming the first trans woman to be nominated in the Best Actress category, and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross not scoring a nomination in the Best Original Score bracket for their work on “Challengers.”

Yang cheered when Sebastian Stan was named in the Best Actor category for “The Apprentice,” where Stan plays a young Donald Trump. The real-life Trump tried to delay the film’s release until after last year’s election. Whether the president will react to Stan’s nod remains to be seen.

Perhaps most surprising is that every nominee for Best Director this year has never been nominated in that category before ― something that hasn’t happened since 1998 ― and that Demi Moore, who gave a moving speech after winning a Golden Globe earlier this year, just might win her first Oscar.

Conan O’Brien will host the Oscars for the first time in his career when the ceremony airs March 2 on ABC and its website, Hulu Live TV and elsewhere.
