Orange Kitten’s Hoop Jumping Skills Are Totally Off the Charts

Modern-day cats act like dogs in many ways. Many have an aptitude for learning tricks, such as ringing a bell for treats, high-fiving, or opening doors. Others like taking a stroll on a leash, and some ride in cars better than their canine counterparts.

However, this kitten's ability to follow commands is well beyond average for dogs and cats alike. Check out this video from August 28 to see his extraordinary skills.

Lucas (@lucas_the_orange_cat) is a total pro at jumping through hoops! He effortlessly leaps through the air when his father instructs him to jump, not once or twice, but six times in a row. He's such a bright and eager boy! If ever there was an example of an orange cat acting differently than your average feline, this is undoubtedly it. With a kitten who is quick to learn, seeing all he can do when he has his first birthday will be fun. Who knows? He might be driving his own car by then.

How to Teach a Kitten Tricks

Teaching cats obedience and special skills requires patience, consistency, and plenty of positive reinforcement. While older cats can also be trained, using a kitten's natural playfulness can be valuable if the tricks you're looking to teach are made to be fun.

  1. Find something that motivates them. It can be their favorite food or a toy, as long as it's high value.

  2. Rather than beginning with hoop-jumping, start something simple, like teaching them to sit, come, or a high-five. When they do what you've asked, be sure to give them plenty of praise and their desired reward to reinforce the behavior.

  3. Keep training sessions brief and consistent. While some cats can handle 5 to 10 minutes of training, others do better with only 2 to 5 minutes at a time. Even if your cat's attention can only be held for two minutes, repeating these activities daily can yield impressive results.

  4. Bring your patience. A kitten's playful nature also means they can be easily distracted, and becoming frustrated will not help.

People enjoyed watching this smart boy. Viewer @junie.b.kitty responded, "What a smart kitty!" He's an impressive guy. Viewer @meowmeowclan remarked, "He's determined not to be reliant on the one brain cell all orange babies share." Ha! That's for sure. Viewer @therealvictoriabelieves responded, "You're definitely the Ultimate Cat Whisperer." That's hard to argue after seeing these results.

Although most of us will not have cats who can perform these kinds of tricks, they are all equally easy to love. Perhaps their way of winning our hearts to do their bidding is their most impressive skill of all.
