Is Camilla's wedding snub down to 'past tensions' with Prince Andrew?

It’s set to be one of the most talked-about weddings of the year, but Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will not be attending Princess Eugenie’s nuptials.

Clarence House – the residence she shares with Prince Charles – has said that Camilla has a prior engagement in Scotland and will instead attend a school harvest festival there.

However, her snub may be down to “past tensions” she has with Charles’ brother, Prince Andrew, the Daily Mail reports.

Following Princess Diana’s death, the Duchess “felt Andrew could have done more” to help smooth her transition into the royal family, a source told the publication.

“The Queen listens to Andrew and he could have helped his brother at a time when he had few allies within the family,” the ‘close figure’ added.

“In fact, I would go so far as to say he was deeply unhelpful when support would have meant a huge amount to her and the Prince.”

The 71-year-old “hasn’t forgotten” about Andrew “playing politics” when it came to his elder brother’s relationship with her.

And while Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William and Kate Middleton will all be turning up in their finest glad rags for the day, Camilla is not attending due to another commitment.

It’s believed the appearance, which is set to take place near her home in Birkhall, was booked in long before Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank set their wedding date.

A source told The Mirror they ‘would not view it as a snub’ as it was a ‘long-standing prior engagement’.

Camilla is expected to carry out engagements in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 11 and 12 October, visiting Alford Community Campus, where she will join a cookery class and watch a Harvest Festival performance from local primary school pupils.

Camilla will also take a trip to Crathie Primary School to see displays created by the children in celebration of the Cairngorms (Scottish mountain range) and The Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavilion in Braemar, which was opened by the Queen last month.

The Duchess of Cornwall’s husband, Prince Charles, will be there on the day, as will Princess Eugenie’s grandmother, the Queen and her mother, Sarah Ferguson.

A source told The Sun that Eugenie is actually ‘fine’ about Camilla missing out on her big day, because she knows the Duchess wouldn’t want ‘to let anyone down’.

Camilla isn’t the only member of the royal family that has been rumoured to be missing out on Eugenie’s day.

It was previously claimed her grandfather, Prince Philip, was considering snubbing his granddaughter’s wedding day because he doesn’t want to bump into Eugenie’s mum, Sarah Ferguson.

“He does what he wants,” a royal insider told People magazine.’

“He made a supreme effort for Harry. I would be very surprised if he did go, because he is so estranged from Fergie.

“I think he will decide at the 99th hour.”

The wedding date is also thought to be inconvenient for Kate Middleton, whose sister, Pippa Middleton, is due to give birth any day now.
