“The Office” star Jenna Fischer recalls being rear-ended by paparazzi who ignored her to chase Christina Ricci
The actress says she's practically "invisible" to the world of paparazzi.
The Office star Jenna Fischer doesn't even have to try to keep a low profile.
During a conversation about the paparazzi on a recent episode of Fischer's Office Ladies rewatch podcast, the actress who played Pam Beesly said, "I can go a lot of places. I really fly under the radar and I always have. I don't know if it's some special gift or something." Fischer explained that she's in fact so undetectable to the paps, one didn't recognize her even after crashing his car into hers.
"I was once rear ended by the paparazzi who were chasing Christina Ricci," Fischer recounted. "I had to get out of my car and exchange information with them, and they never took my photo. That's how invisible I am to that world."
The only times Fischer gets recognized anymore, as she told to co-host Angela Kinsey and guest Timothy Olyphant, who appeared in a season 7 arc of The Office as the traveling salesman Danny Cordray, is when she's mistaken for other celebrities.
She doesn't get Ricci, but, "I would get Amy Adams and Isla Fisher."
She continued, "Amy Adams and I were both at the party. The guy I was with at the time, he came up to me and he's like, 'Oh my God, I'm so embarrassed. I just went up and I put my arm around Amy Adams. I thought it was you. I was like, 'Nope, I'm over here.' Then she came up and she was like, 'I met your date. It was so great to meet him!'"
Fischer starred in the full series run of The Office, from 2005-2013. During that time she was nominated for Emmy awards, graced the covers of magazines, and was broadcast into living rooms around the world on a weekly basis. Still, comparisons to the red-headed Adams and Fisher haunted her.

The actress revealed on a December episode of Office Ladies that Adams almost wasn't cast in her small role as Katy Moore in several early episodes of the NBC comedy because the casting department thought they looked too similar.
"There was this concern that Amy and I looked too similar. And I guess one of the writers even said, 'I'm sorry, we can't cast her. She's like Jenna 2.0,'" Fischer explained. "So they got cold feet and they cast someone else. But when it didn't work out, they decided to cast Amy and just lean into the fact that she and I looked similar because that wasn't the idea behind the role at first."
Eventually, the writers leaned into Fischer and Adams' similarities, toying with the idea of a romance between Katy and Jim (John Krasinski), Pam's then-crush and future husband.
In 2019, Fischer posted to Instagram a screengrab of the Google suggested searches for the query "Is Jenna Fischer," which yielded results like "Is related to Isla Fisher" and "Is Jenna Fisher related to Amy Adams." In the caption, Fischer explained, "I am not related to Isla Fisher, Carrie Fisher, Amy Fisher or Debbie Reynolds. I am not related to Amy Adams but she is a lovely human being and would love if she were my sis."
