NSW Premier tests positive to Covid

NSW Premier Chris Minns has confirmed he has tested positive to Covid and will miss the start of the state parliament’s final sitting week.

In a social media post, Mr Minns said he took a rapid antigen test, which confirmed the diagnosis, after “feeling unwell” in the morning.

“I’m now at home, and while there are no rules which require you to self-isolate, NSW Health strongly recommend you to stay home until symptoms have subsided to protect our community,” he wrote.

“I’ll be sure to keep you all updated, but hopefully I’ll be back at work in a couple of days”.

It’s understood that prior to testing positive, Mr Minns attended a press conference with Housing Minister Rose Jackson at Meadowbank in Sydney’s northwest.

NSW is experiencing an uptick of Covid-19 infections, with the most recent NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report ending on November 18 indicating “moderate to high levels and continues to increase”.

“Covid-19 activity increased across all indicators in the past fortnight,” it said.

“The proportion of ED presentations for Covid-19 requiring admission was stable suggesting no increase in disease severity.”
