Nicole Kidman reveals Keith Urban’s attraction for her Russian accent

15 years into their marriage and Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban keep proving that they’re the definition of couple goals.

The Aussie actress joined The Project on Wednesday night and shared the secret to their lasting marriage, including how her latest TV role plays a part.

Nicole told host Carrie Bickmore that her husband Keith had a keen interest in her Russian Nine Perfect Strangers character Masha, a role that she stayed in for the entire five months of filming for the miniseries.

“Keith was really into Masha, so that was good,” she admitted with a laugh. “I think he just sort of liked the vibe.”

The 54-year-old went on to reveal that it’s the frivolity in her relationship with Keith that has kept the spark alive.

“You’ve got to have spice,” she said. “Sugar and spice is the key to 15 years.”

Speaking about her new project, Nicole explained that she made the choice to keep up her Russian accent outside of filming to make the character more believable, and her fellow actors didn’t hear her Australian voice until the show wrapped.

“People go, ‘that’s insane’, and maybe I am a bit insane, but at the same time, that was the only way to make it work for me,” she detailed. “I didn’t want to feel like I was putting on a performance.

“My kids would hear me talking in the accent all the time to the point where they didn’t even notice it.”

Nine Perfect Strangers, which is based on Australian author Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name, was filmed in Byron Bay late last year.

The series focuses on a group of people from the city embarking on a 10-day retreat at a health and wellness resort lead by Masha.

Nicole’s interview on The Project comes shortly after she discussed Keith’s feelings towards her on-screen sex scenes.

“My husband is an artist, so he understands all of it, and he also does not get involved,” she told Daily Pop.

“He sees the show at the very end when it's a show, all edited together, and he's fresh eyes. He doesn't read any script, he really doesn't know what's going on on the set, he's got his own career that he's completely absorbed in.”

“He doesn't know much about what I'm really doing,” she joked.
