Aussie actor Lincoln Lewis found local fame on hit soap Home and Away before turning his back on Summer Bay for the bright lights of Hollywood.

In 2013 it seemed like the heartthrob had found his big break when he was cast in sci-fi blockbuster After Earth alongside Will Smith.

However when the final product was released, all but a few seconds of the 26-year-old's work had been cut.

"A few seconds of me got left in, most of it ended up on the floor. When we had the premiere, M. Night Shyamalan came to me at the afterparty and said, ‘I am so, so sorry’," he revealed.

However the star did make an impression on director, M. Night Shyamalan who offered him a personal viewing of the leftover footage, “He said, ‘I’ve got the stuff at my house. When you can, come over and you can see what it looks like’."

"I will make that house call”, he joked.

Following another pilot called Westside that failed to get picked up, the son of legendary Rugby League player Wally Lewis admits you just have to keep trying.

“It’s a cutthroat industry. You know you are going to hear ‘no’ a lot and there is going to be a lot of rejection.

"Everything you do, you put heart and soul into it and it can be really tough if things don’t work out the way you hoped ... but you just have to do the best you can.”

Despite setbacks in Hollywood, Lincoln can still be seen on Aussie screens, joining the third season of Aussie series House Husbands and a role in the upcoming miniseries Gallipoli, set to air in 2015.
