Malaysia Airlines horror: ‘I was attacked mid-flight’

In the wake of two devastating aviation disasters, Laura Bushney was extremely anxious about her 13-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur to Paris with Malaysia Airlines.

The 26-year-old was travelling with the troubled airline en route to a holiday in France and couldn’t shake a feeling of dread, ‘Two planes had already gone down,’ she tells New Idea.

Laura made her way to seat 81a in an isolated spot towards the back of the plane, sitting behind fellow passenger Sophie Lachance.

Lying across three empty seats, Laura tried to relax. But all of a sudden, the steward appeared at her side and grabbed her hand.

‘I felt instantly uncomfortable,’she recalls.

‘I bolted up because I was lying down and he sat next to me. ‘He kept telling me to lie down, relax, sleep. But he was too familiar, too hands-on. I felt as if my personal space had been invaded.’

Feeling uneasy, Laura asked the steward to get her a drink and hoped he’d take the hint and not come back, but instead the vulnerable lone traveller says he kept returning, and his inappropriate behaviour escalated.

Laura claims the steward sat down next to her and began rubbing her legs and massaging her stomach. And over the course of the 13-hour flight, his actions culminated in a horrific sexual assault.

‘I thought he was a terrorist,’ she says tearfully. ‘I didn’t know what he was planning to do next.’

‘I thought he had perpetrated this evil act because it was the last time he would experience pleasure before we all perished. ‘He was gross, almost old enough to be my father. I felt so dirty.’
