In the midst of promotions for her critically acclaimed new film, Cake, Jennifer Aniston sat down with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview where no topic was off-limits.

The 45-year-old, who appears on the cover of the magazine wearing a knitted jumper and heels, opened up about her 'traumatic' childhood spent struggling with dyslexia, a 'life-changing' diagnosis which came in her early 20s.

"I thought I wasn't smart. I just couldn't retain anything," she says.

"Now I had this great discovery. I felt like all of my childhood trauma-dies, tragedies, dramas were explained."

Of her strained relationship with her 'critical' mother, Nancy Dow, Jen says the pair are fine now however admits there were years where they didn't speak.

"She had a temper. I can't tolerate that. If I get upset, I will discuss [things]. I will never scream and get hysterical like that. [But] I was never taught that I could scream. One time, I raised my voice to my mother, and I screamed at her, and she looked at me and burst out laughing. She was laughing at me [for] screaming back. And it was like a punch in my stomach."

"She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn't. I never was. I honestly still don't think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty."

When asked about her ex Brad Pitt, who she split from in 2005, Jen admits they're not in regular contact but they wish nothing but the best for each other and that nobody did anything wrong.

"If the world only could just stop with the stupid, soap-opera bullsh-t. There's no story. I mean, at this point it's starting to become — please, give more credit to these human beings."

Jen, who has been happily engaged to Justin Theroux since 2012, says they haven't set a date, and while the feels the topic of her having kids has been 'exhausted', she admits kids is a definite possibility.

"I get nervous around that, just because it's very personal. Who knows if it's going to happen? It's been a want. We're doing our best."
