Neighbours' TikTok account takes swipe at rival Home and Away: 'Unhinged'

Just over a month after it was announced that Neighbours had officially been cancelled after 37 years on air, the show’s official TikTok page has taken a savage swipe at rival soap opera Home and Away.

The @neighbourstv account, which currently has over 42,000 followers, posted a video on Wednesday poking fun at the Channel Seven series and the two shows’ long-running rivalry.

The clip begins with a group photo of the Neighbours cast using the trending audio, “I wouldn’t wish that upon my worst enemy”, seemingly referencing the fact that the show has been axed.

The audio then says, “Unless, of course, we’re talking about my enemy Gwyneth Paltrow”, and a photo of the Home and Away cast pops up on screen.

“Jk it’s all love for Summer Bay,” the video’s caption reads.

The TikTok has since racked up thousands of likes and received plenty of comments from people arguing over which show they prefer watching.

Home and Away is better sorry,” one person wrote, to which the Neighbours account replied, “It’s ok Sarah ur allowed to share ur wrong opinion”.

Neighbours is 100% better,” another added, followed by a third who said, “I don’t think you can win this argument when you have literally just been cancelled”.

"I never had the willpower to make it through an episode of each,” someone else shared, while a different person remarked, “I’m a fan of both”.

Others applauded the “unhinged” post, admitting that they were “here for the beef”, while a number of people expressed their sadness that Neighbours would be coming to an end later this year.

Neighbours is the superior Aussie soap! I'm gonna cry when it ends,” a fan commented.

Neighbours is my fav! I don’t want it to end,” another remarked, with someone else writing, “I’m not ready to say goodbye”.

‘We are so sorry’

After Neighbours stars and fans spent weeks rallying together to try and save the show from cancellation, it was confirmed in March that the soap opera would officially cease production in June after being unable to secure funding.

“We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June,” a statement shared to the show's Instagram page read.

“Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show.

“To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours.”
