Neighbours star unrecognisable after career pivot: 'Blast from the past'

She grew up on Australian TV screens, spending seven years on Neighbours as Hannah Martin. And now actress Rebecca Ritters is living a very different life, reporting on wars and conflict as a news anchor.

The 39-year-old former child actress is now an anchor and correspondent for DW News, a German news channel.

Her Instagram is dotted with impressive footage of her reporting live from the frontlines in Ukraine and Afghanistan.

However, her days of wearing a tartan skirt in Erinsborough are never far from her mind, as she recently uploaded a throwback magazine interview to her Instagram account, where she sat down with her mum and dad to talk about her acting career.

“Someone sent me this blast from the past on Twitter. Why were the 90s so unkind? Mum and dad looking cute, though,” she wrote, alongside the hashtags: #throwback #braceface #neighbours #ramsaystreet

Many people were quick to comment on the snap, saying they remember her on the show back in the day.

“I loved your character in Neighbours back in the day! You should have made a comeback for the finale!” one person said.

“I still instantly recognise you as Hannah!” another said.

“Wow. I remember these days so clearly - Beth & Jurgen and your days on Neighbours - crazy and to see what an amazing young woman you’ve become,” another wrote.

Fans no doubt have fond memories of Rebecca’s character, Hannah, who was the daughter of Philip and Julie Martin on the soap from 1992 to 1999.

Much like many of the characters on the show, Hannah came up against her fair share of obstacles during her stint, dealing with the death of her mother, Julie, after a balcony fall, a near-abduction and getting her heart broken a few times.

Rebecca moved to the UK after her time on Neighbours and briefly held a role in the long-running soap Coronation Street.
