Neighbours star unrecognisable in throwback snap: ‘What a cutie!’

She rose to fame and entered the hearts of Australians in 2003 for her role on Neighbours, but fans have never seen Natalie Bassingthwaighte quite like this before.

The multi-talented star, who played Izzy Hoyland in the Aussie soap opera, shared a throwback snap on social media looking barely recognisable.

The Instagram post shows Natalie posing for a primary school photo, sporting a wide grin and long blonde hair.

“Note to my 6-year-old (I think) self!” she captioned the post.

“Life will dish out some stuff…. But hang in there, girl! You got this. To all the peeps hanging in there! You’ve got this! Hold on.”

Followers were quick to compliment Nat’s younger self, with many calling her “adorable”.

“Omg cutest 6-year-old ever,” one person wrote.

“So precious,” another added, with a third commenting, “What a cutie!”

After gaining wide acclaim for her role in Neighbours, including three Logie Award nominations, Natalie decided to leave the show in 2006.

She joined the electronic rock band Rogue Traders in 2004 and achieved seven top 20 hits on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Following this, she gained success with her debut solo album, 1000 Stars, hosted the first three seasons of the reality dance competition So You Think You Dance and became a mentor on The X Factor from 2011 to 2014.

Most recently, she made it to the finale of I’m A Celebrity in 2017, reprised her role as Izzy Hoyland for a guest spot on Neighbours in 2018, and had starring roles in the Australian productions Chicago and Chess.

The 45-year-old’s throwback post comes shortly after her appearance on SBS’ genealogical show, Who Do You Think You Are?.

"I do still feel like, no matter how much I've been knocked down or, you know, the trials and tribulations that I've had in my life, I'm still standing and I'm more than just standing, I feel so happy right now," she told Yahoo Lifestyle in an interview about the program.
