Australia's Got Talent winner started washing dishes for $6/hour after show
Former Australia’s Got Talent star Bonnie Anderson has revealed it wasn’t smooth sailing after she won the reality show back in 2007.
Bonnie, who now stars on Neighbours, won the competition at the tender age of 12 and did not immediately go down a path of fame and glory, choosing instead to return to school.
The singer admitted that rather than sign with a record label and go on to make hefty pay-checks, she returned to her humble roots.
“I still remember going back to washing dishes at my local bakery for $6 or $7 an hour,” the star told Best Weekend.
Bonnie took home the coveted winnings of $250,000 as the winner of the competition, but was clearly not opposed to earning some extra pocket money as a teenager.
It wasn’t until 2012 that the star began releasing music, putting out six singles by 2016.
She told the magazine that she sees her music as cathartic, and used it to deal with challenges she faced as an older teenager.
Bonnie joined the cast of Neighbours playing Bea Nilssen last year.
She had never previously tried her hand at acting, but is set to star on the show for two years.
The admission comes after many former reality stars are hitting screens again on The Voice’s all-star season.
Another former winner Jack Vidgen made headlines this week for his dramatic transformation, which sparked plastic surgery rumours.
The star recently brushed off the rumours, saying while he’s had fillers he’s never gone under the knife.
