‘The Neighborhood’ Marty & Malcolm Spinoff Starring Marcel Spears & Sheaun McKinney In Works At CBS
The Neighborhood universe is eying further expansion with a second spinoff. The upcoming Season 7 finale of the hit CBS comedy series starring Cedric the Entertainer will serve as a planted spinoff headlined by Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney.
The premise of the offshoot echoes that of the mothership in reverse. It follows Marty (Marcel Spears) and Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) Butler as they embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapters of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close by yet worlds apart: Venice Beach.

'The Equalizer': Titus Welliver & Juani Feliz To Headline Potential Spinoff For CBS
2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
Three new characters will be introduced in the planted spinoff (Episode 720) as guest stars with options to become series regulars if CBS moves forward with the project for the 2025-26 season.
The Neighborhood kicked off in 2018 as a white Midwestern family, the Johnsons, moved into a predominantly black neighborhood in Pasadena, California, with the Butlers as their neighbors.
Marty Butler (Spears) is now a new dad after welcoming a baby with his friend, former co-worker and one-night stand Courtney (Skye Townsend) in the Season 6 finale. It is unclear whether Townsend, who is series regular on The Neighborhood this season, would be part of the spinoff.
The multi-cam offshoot comes from The Neighborhood studio, CBS Studios, and production companies, Cedric’s A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV. The Neighborhood showrunners Bill Martin and Mike Schiff executive produce with Cedric the Entertainer, Kaplan, Trilling and Eric C. Rhone.
CBS, which also has an Equalizer spinoff in the works for next season starring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz, is yet to make renewal decisions on its established series. The Neighborhood is looking good to continue, and the idea is for the mothership and spinoff ideally to run side by side, I hear.
The potential Marty & Malcolm spinoff joins Crutch, the upcoming Paramount+ multi-camera comedy series headlined by Tracy Morgan. It also is set in the world of The Neighborhood, now in its seventh season; Morgan’s Grutch is the cousin of Cedric’s Calvin Butler from the CBS sitcom.
In addition to The Neighborhood, Kapital has drama Watson on CBS. It debuts Sunday.
