National Tater Tot Day 2025: Get deals, freebies at Sonic, Burger King, Dominos

Sunday, Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day, but it is also a day to celebrate one of America's most beloved side dishes – tater tots.

According to US Foods, tater tots were invented by F. Nephi Grigg of Ore-Ida in 1953 as a way to use excess potato shavings that came from making frozen French fries. The term "tater tot" is a proprietary name owned by Ore-Ida, an American brand of potato-based frozen foods currently produced and distributed by Kraft Heinz.

Here's where you can get deals and freebies on tater tots this year in honor of National Tater Tot Day.

Sonic offers free medium order of tater tots with any in-app purchase

Now through Feb. 2, Sonic customers can get a free medium order of SONIC Tots with any in-app purchase, the company said in a news release.

The company said the Strawberry Shortcake Snowball Slush Float is also back for a limited time.

Get free Cheesy Tots at Burger King with purchase

Burger King is offering customers a free 4-piece Cheesy Tots with any purchase of $1 or more on Feb. 2, the company told USA TODAY.

The offer is available to Royal Perks members at participating Burger King locations.

Get Loaded Tots at Dominos Pizza with Mix & Match Deal

While Domino's is not offering any deal specifically for National Tater Tot Day, the pizza chain does offer Loaded Tots in its Mix & Match Deal.

The deal allows customers to choose any two or more menu items for $6.99 each. Domino's Loaded Tots come in three varieties: Philly Cheese Steak, Cheddar Bacon and Melty 3-Cheese.

Tater Totz return to menu at Sheetz

Sheetz said in a news release Tuesday that Tater Totz are officially back on the menu following a year-and-a-half-long hiatus.

The convenience store chain said the tots are available now at all Sheetz locations. Customers can get a cup of tots for $4.49 or a bucket for $5.59, according to the news release.

In honor of National Tater Tot Day, Sheetz is offering customers $1 off any Tater Totz purchase from Feb. 2-6 at all of its locations by adding it under the "OFFERZ" tab on the Sheetz app.

Customers can customize their tots with five different seasonings and a selection of 15 different dipping sauces, Sheetz said.

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar offering discounted tots

Customers can celebrate National Tater Tot Day at Bad Daddy's with their Atomic Tots, Red Chili Tots and Potato Tot Soup, available all weekend for just $5.50, the company told USA TODAY.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers offering free tots with purchase

To celebrate National Tater Tot Day, Freddy's is offering free regular tots with a $5 purchase between Feb. 2 and Feb. 9, the company told USA TODAY.

Customers must download the offer on the Freddy's app, limit one per guest.
