Wales Bonner is developing a special-edition publication at Howard University
Wales Bonner announced via Instagram on Tuesday that Grace Wales Bonner and Dr. Michael Ralph, Cameron Schier Professor and Chair of the Department of Afro-American Studies at Howard University, are creating a free, special edition publication commemorating the Howard University lineage. An open call for submissions from current and former Howard University students is available now until Aug. 5, and all submission materials can be sent to research@walesbonner.net. "We are particularly interested in visual or written records that reflect instances of communion on campus and expressions of style," Wales Bonner shares on Instagram. {Instagram}
Saks Fifth Avenue shrinks emerging beauty brand assortment
Saks Fifth Avenue is downsizing its emerging brand assortment as it's cutting costs, and the company still hasn't paid some beauty brands almost a year after reports that it was late with vendor payments. Skin-care brands OY-L and Kari Gran claim Saks owes them thousands of dollars, and both were eliminated from its website as Saks has delisted more than 20 beauty brands to focus on luxury beauty. A spokesperson for Saks issued a statement to Beauty Independent: "Saks is committed to fulfilling its obligations to its vendor partners. Any delayed payments are due to navigating our business through the current challenging macroeconomic environment. For beauty, we've made strategic decisions to improve the performance of our assortment and as such, we've exited certain brands." {Beauty Independent/paywalled}
