The $1.50 Kmart hack for perfect poached eggs

Cooking poached eggs is one of those things that can either be a hit or a miss – even for experienced chefs.

But now one woman is helping us all out by sharing her ultimate hack for getting the perfect poached egg every time.

Posting to Facebook, Tia-Louise Bellantone from Perth revealed that the trick is to place the eggs inside silicone baking moulds so they don’t fall apart in the water.

“Don’t know if anyone has already hacked this, but wanted to share anyway,” Tia-Louise wrote.

“I totally suck at mastering the poached egg…so I gave this a go – it worked a dream! I put a tiny bit of cooking spray in the cup and just let some water boil over into it,” she continued.

Alongside her post, she shared two images: one showing the two eggs each in silicone muffin cases floating in a pot of water and another revealing the end result – two poached eggs perfectly laying atop her breakfast meal.

Fellow members of the group thought the idea was pure genius, with the post gaining more than 1,900 likes in a matter of hours and comments full of praise.

“I need to do this! Last time I tried poached eggs, they dissolved – I literally lost the eggs! Can’t wait to try this,” one woman commented.

“I’m the poached egg maker in my house, but they never look this round or perfectly awesome – thanks for sharing!” another said.

If this is a method you would want to try out, you can purchase the simple silicone cups from Kmart which come in a pack of six for a bargain $1.50.
