No dog owner loves seeing their pooch skid into the house with muddy paws, but one TikTok user reckons she’s found the perfect solution.
It’s Dog Gone Smart's Dirty Dog Doormat, a shaggy $30 mat made of super absorbent microfibre that’s designed to soak up water and trap any dirt on your pet’s feet as they walk in the door.
Posting about it on the social media platform, @lizluxehome described it as a “must-have”, saying, “It literally dries their paws instantly. It’s machine washable, hang to dry. It’s a must.”
Her video has picked up over 30,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with many saying they also love the product.
“I have two, one at my back door and one under the water bowls. They work great,” one user commented, while another said, “OMG I have this mat and love it.”
“I have the biggest one… it’s amazing,” and “I have two and yes, a must!!” said a third and fourth commenter.
Others were more skeptical however, saying the mat doesn’t “dry instantly” as @lizluxehome says, and you still have to train your dog to stay on the mat or wipe their feet for the best results.
“I bought two of these after our house was built, they don’t dry their paws instantly, but it sure does help,” one person wrote.

“I have this, when they come inside they get a treat and I make them sit down and spin for two mins and boom, dry,” another commented.
The same brand also makes a much longer runner which would help with this, but at $130 it’s also a fair bit more expensive.
The Dog Gone mat is popular because it has a non-stick base to prevent it sliding around and is made of fast-drying microfibre, however many bath mats have the same qualities - although without the dog paw print detail.
One important thing to be aware of is the height of your door frame, as you want to avoid the bottom of the door catching on the mat and dragging it as it opens.
Other pet accessories to help prevent muddy paw prints include microfibre mitts - which are essentially made of the same material as the doormat but in a wearable form to help you clean your dog’s paws - and dog paw washers - that you insert your pooch’s paws into to scrub off dirt before they enter the house.
