A Danish celebrity chef has recalled the mortifying moment his Copenhagen restaurant accidentally denied entry to Denmark's Australian-born Queen Mary. Dak Wichangoen, who was previously the head chef of the Michelin star restaurant Kiin Kiin, revealed the Danish royals regularly enjoyed the restaurant, which is only 10 minutes from Amalienborg Palace.

Speaking with Denmark's B.T. News, Dak shared, "I cooked for Mary and Frederik when I worked at Kiin Kiin. She loved a good Pad Thai. They love coming there."

He added that the restaurant staff were used to serving members of the royal family, but Mary was once turned down for a table. The chef explained, "(Mary) had been past the takeaway and then came in and asked if there was room."

"We had foreign staff in the kitchen and at the door, and they might not have known who Mary was," Dak added. "Then (Mary) came in and said, 'Hey, they said they didn't have any space?’ I said, ‘Who said there wasn't any space? You just sit down.'"

Mary, who is originally from Hobart, Tasmania, is known for being a very down-to-earth royal and is often seen riding her bike around the city by herself.

It comes after Mary went completely unnoticed by members of the public during an outing in Sydney last October.

Mary was visiting Australia with her daughter Princess Josephine, 14. The pair were joined by the Queen's friend Amber Petty, who was a bridesmaid during the royal wedding in 2004.

The royals hiked Sydney's famous Bondi to Bronte coastal walk and checked out the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition. The 52-year-old tried her best to go incognito in an all-black ensemble with a navy blue cap and a pair of sunglasses.

Matrix Media CEO Ben McDonald, who took the photos, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that what they don't show is that Mary completed her beach walk and even went shopping at a boutique in Paddington without anyone recognising or approaching her.

"She even walked all along Mackenzies Bay with her daughter and went unnoticed," he says. "She passed a lot of people and no one noticed! They had no idea a Queen was in their midst."
