Model receives death threats for not plucking eyebrows

A model whose monobrow has seen her become an Instagram sensation has revealed she regularly receives death threats because of the way she looks.

Sophia Hadjipanteli opts not to pluck her bushy eyebrows, and while her striking look has earned her 292K followers on Instagram, unfortunately it’s also attracted some negative attention.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain in the UK, she explained that she tries not to let unpleasant reactions get her down.

“I get a lot of death threats funnily enough, I guess it’s not that funny,” she said.

“I definitely get a lot of negative reactions, I’m not going to sit here and say a lot of them are positive because that’s obviously not the case. Most are negative.”

But despite some negativity about embracing her natural look, the model has also attracted legions of fans for promoting body positivity.

“It’s disgusting but then you think how is it that somewhere somebody has been told that it’s so unacceptable to look the way I do that it infuriates them to the point where they have to threaten my life,” Sophia continued.

“I think it has to do with this ongoing conversation that we are being brought up in a society that not only favourites but encourages people to go down one road. It’s quite a strongly paved road.”

Having grown up in a “very conservative area of Maryland”, Sophia added that she had struggled with being different but has now embraced her natural self.

She’s since nicknamed her distinctive brows ‘Veronika’.
