MKR's Manu Feildel's hack for making a $15 bottle of wine taste more expensive: 'Significantly better'
EXCLUSIVE: Manu reveals how you can get more bang for your buck when buying wine - and it's easier than you think.
My Kitchen Rules host Manu Feildel has revealed a hack to make a $15 bottle of wine taste "significantly better" so you can save some money while still indulging in the simple things and elevating your dining experience. The MKR star and celebrity chef has partnered with LeCavist, a renowned French expert in premium wine storage solutions, to help educate on proper wine storage.
Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, Manu shares his tips on how to make a cheaper bottle of wine taste even better, with the French chef telling us, "A cheaper bottle of wine can taste better and even seem more expensive if it’s stored correctly. Proper storage—such as maintaining a consistent temperature, controlling humidity, and avoiding light exposure—allows the wine to age gracefully and retain its intended flavours."

He continues, "Even wines that aren't premium can improve with time if they're stored under the right conditions, as this helps preserve their balance, reduce harsh tannins, and enhance their aroma and complexity.
"While great storage won't transform a low-quality wine, it can significantly elevate the tasting experience of a well-made, affordable bottle."
Biggest mistake people make with wine
Manu also shares the biggest mistakes wine fans are making when it comes to wine storage, with the presenter sharing the below:
Temperature Fluctuations: Many don’t realise that maintaining a consistent temperature is crucial for preserving wine quality.
Light Exposure: Storing wine in direct sunlight or bright light can degrade it, especially delicate whites and sparkling wines.
Humidity Levels: While too much humidity can damage labels, too little can dry out corks, leading to oxidation. The ideal humidity level for wine storage is between 50% and 70%.
Avoid Vibrations and Strong Odours: Wine is sensitive to vibrations, which can disturb the aging process by shaking up sediment and altering the wine’s natural development.
Control Humidity Levels: Humidity plays an important role in keeping the cork in good condition. Too much humidity (above 70%) can cause mould on labels, while too little (below 50%) can dry out corks, allowing air to seep in and oxidise the wine.
