Miranda Lambert Accepts Country Icon Award at 2024 People's Choice Country Awards: It Took 'Tears, Beers and Tito's'

The awards show aired live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville across NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. ET

Miranda Lambert received the country icon award at the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards.

During the awards show, hosted by Shania Twain, at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House on Sept. 26, the country star, 40, thanked her fans and reflected on her career as she received the honor.

"It's so weird for me to stand up here and hold an icon award. I mean, to me, an icon is who I grew up listening to. My daddy would play Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine. Those are my icons," Lambert said onstage as she accepted the honor. "So the fact that I get this award tonight is just blowing my mind."

She added, "It's a lot of years, tears, beers and Tito's."

The "Bluebird" singer went on to thank her fans for supporting her as she made "great memories" in her career.

"Twenty years later and some days I feel like I've done it 200 years and some days I feel like I'm just getting started," she said. "Thank you so much to the most loyal fans in the world, country fans. Thank you to God and all my friends, my country music community for allowing me to do this amazing job. I'm so looking forward to what's next."

Before Lambert accepted her award, she took the stage in an all-back outfit to perform "Kerosene" and "Dammit Randy" while strumming her blue guitar.

Lambert earned the award due to her decades-long career of building "an authentic, female-forward brand of country that has shaped the industry," per a press release.

"A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert’s groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world. We’re so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award," said Jen Neal, Executive Vice President, Live Events and Specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment in a statement.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Lambert said she was "very honored" to be recognized as an icon but that it's still "weird" to be considered one.

"I just still feel like I have so much more to do and so many more things to accomplish, but then I look back, and I'm like, I started in this business at 17 and I'm only 40, but dang, I really did do a lot," she said. "Sometimes that reminds me why I'm a little bit tired here and there. You know what I mean?"

Lambert said she's "just getting started," adding, "I'm more inspired than I have been in a long time, to be honest with you."

The "Wranglers" singer noted that she won't take the country icon award "for granted."

"I will use it to keep going," she said.

Lambert released her most recent album Postcards from Texas on Sept. 13.

The 2024 PCCAs will air live on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT across NBC and Peacock from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
