Miranda Cosgrove recalls interaction with young “iCarly” fan at Target: 'You got old'

The "iCarly" star said the boy recognized her from the original sitcom's resurgence ahead of its Paramount+ revival.

Miranda Cosgrove is fully embracing her millennial era, after she recalled a comical interaction with a young iCarly fan who called her old at Target.

The 30-year-old actress and singer appeared Wednesday on Live With Kelly and Mark to promote her upcoming rom-com Mother of the Bride, and countered host Kelly Ripa's assertion that the former child star has "not changed very much" since her debut as a 9-year-old performer in Jack Black's film School of Rock.

"I do sometimes [get recognized]. It's funny because there was a moment when a lot of young kids didn't really know who I was because [iCarly] hadn't been on for a while. Then, Netflix got the show and they started playing the old seasons," Cosgrove said. "I was actually in Target recently and there a little boy just kind of looking at me in the toy aisle. He kept looking up at me. He was like, 7. I thought, oh my gosh, he must watch the show! And then he kind of kept following me around. I thought he was going to say he watched. Instead he was like, 'You got old!'"

The Live audience laughed as Cosgrove exclaimed that "kids are so honest," while Ripa reacted in shock.

"I'm going to disagree with him," Ripa said. "You did not, because I've been interviewing you now on this show for years, and you look exactly the same."

Amid Paramount+ reviving the classic Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly for a three-season run from 2021-2023, Cosgrove leaned into her personal growth in the gap between the show's first season finale that aired in 2012. The iCarly continuation series included an epic recreation of a widely-memed scene from Cosgrove's appearance on Drake & Josh, in which her character, Megan Parker, intently sat at a computer desk.

Cosgrove's Mother of the Bride — also starring Brooke Shields — releases May 9 on Netflix.
