Miley Cyrus' heartbreak as dog and 'best friend' Mary Jane dies
Miley Cyrus has taken to Instagram to share the sad news her dog and "best friend" Mary Jane has sadly died.
In a lengthy statement, Miley shared that MJ "had been diagnosed with cancer over a year ago" and said their connection was "an incomparable love".
"Anyone who knows me [and] it doesn't have to be well is aware that my best friend in the whole world is a rescued pit bull mix named Mary Jane," Miley began her statement.
"MJ was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago... [and] since then multiple types and tumours. I was told it'd be an uncertain amount of time until she's gone. Advised to spend every second savouring her special spirit, which wasn't anything new. I had been for 10 years.

"In life it is easy to take things for granted. To let little miracles pass you by without moment of gratitude. To be oblivious when the rays of heaven shine down onto you. But when it came to my ANGEL Mary Jane... never once did I forget the gift I had been given. She made it impossible to. She was a dog with wings in a way."
Miley continued, saying, "I thanked her repeatedly as she took her last breath for who and what she has been to me. It was something more than a friend or family member. Something so different. You can't define it. Our connection was purely DIVINE. An incomparable love."
"She has come to my rescue every time my heart has broken. Put me back together again. Going [through] this pain without her magic power is so lonely."
"This time it was my duty to return all her favours and keep her comfortable, happy [and] free of any pain for as long as possible... she has always done that for me. She is no longer hurting but I am. That's what love is.
"Mary Jane passed away with grace, dignity, peace, [and] power. She lived by the golden rule of kindness and compassion towards all. She was strong when she needed to be but never for [too] long. She would never let her soul close. She lived so open. To love and be loved.
"If only we were all more like Mary Jane," Miley finished.
Miley followed up her statement by sharing photos and videos of Mary Jane with one captioned, "Dog is God backwards."
Another said, "I'm so lucky you were mine."
The singer adopted Mary Jane with former husband Liam Hemsworth in 2012.
Miley had a portrait of her beloved dog tattooed on her arm in 2017 by celebrity tattoo artist Dr Woo.
Her love of animals is what made Miley decide to become vegan in 2014, she has since shifted to being a pescatarian.
