Michael B. Jordan Plays Twins Defending Their Hometown Against Invading Vampires in “Sinners” Trailer
'Sinners,' which also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo and Jack O'Connell, is in theaters April 18
Director Ryan Coogler is bringing twice as much Michael B. Jordan star power to their intense new thriller.
On Tuesday, Jan. 28, Warner Bros. debuted a new trailer for Sinners, in which Jordan, 37, has dual roles as twins. Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Miller, Jayme Lawson and Jack O'Connell also round out the cast.
Teases a synopsis, "Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back."
Sinners marks director Coogler's first movie since 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and another collaboration between Coogler and Jordan, after Fruitvale Station, Creed and the 2018 original Black Panther.
During a Jan. 27 virtual press conference, Coogler, 38, acknowledged that he and Jordan have developed a personal friendship and relationship similar to Martin Scorsese's frequent work with Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.
"All of my favorite filmmakers have those relationships, and its makes it easier, man. It's hard to make a movie, bro," Coogler said. "It's hard to lead a film, to be an actor in these films, and when you have somebody who it clicks with and somebody who understands you, who gets you, and somebody who it doesn't feel like work all the time. And then what we went through with losing Chadwick, man, it made us both, I think, appreciate each other even more."
Coogler noted during the press conference that Sinners is partially inspired by his family's history in Mississippi.
"The seed of it started with that relationship with my uncle. He would listen to blues music all the time. He would only talk about Mississippi when he was listening to that music," Coogler said. "He had a profound effect on my life, and I got a chance to kind of dig into my own ancestral history with this film. It's been extremely rewarding."

Coogler also cited stories like Stephen King's 1975 novel Salem's Lot and a 1962 episode of The Twilight Zone titled "The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank" as major inspirations for Sinners.
Sinners is in theaters April 18.
