Method Man is grateful for his low-key decades-long marriage to his wife, Tamika Smith.

The Wu-Tang Clan rapper and Power Book II: Ghost star (born Clifford Smith, Jr.), 53, has been married to Smith for decades now — almost as long as his successful music and acting career — and recently told Vanity Fair why it’s a “blessing” the couple has maintained a private relationship away from the spotlight for so long.

“I’ve been married to the same woman for 30 years, and the fact that my wife and I stay out of the public eye is a blessing in itself,” he shared with the outlet.

The pair’s marriage came up when Method Man was asked about his party days, which he, apparently, wasn’t too fond of. “I think there was some afterparty [a long time ago] in California, and I was having a bad day that day, but we all went out anyway,” the rapper recalled. “And the party was lit, it was a nice party, but I never felt so alone in my life.”

“And the fact that I felt conscious of being alone in a crowded room…then I felt uncomfortable,” he continued. “I wasn’t into it at all, and it was like, none of this is for me anymore.”

Outside of stepping out for live performances and press runs for his onscreen projects, Method Man seems pretty content with keeping to himself and his wife, whom he’s been with for over 30 years and shares three children. They reportedly met when Smith was the rapper’s personal assistant in the late ’90s.

Method Man rarely discusses the details of their marriage but, during a 2023 visit to the daytime talk show Sherri, he did offer some advice on how to nurture a great relationship.

“Don’t talk about it,” he said. “I think the more you keep things private and between you and her, it’s more personal and it lasts longer.”

Method Man also briefly spoke about his relationship with Smith during a 2021 appearance on Red Table Talk, where he shared that “respect is first and foremost” as far as relationship advice goes.

Coming up, the hip-hop icon will continue his Las Vegas residency with his Wu-Tang Clan brothers — RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Masta Killa and Cappadonna — with two shows happening at The Theater at Virgin Hotels on Sept. 27 and 28.

He recently performed at the 2024 Essence Festival Of Culture in New Orleans, where he shared another update on his marriage with the publication, saying, "Just know me and my wife are good.” He added, "As far as my family goes, I keep it out of the media. We’re happier that way, plus [my wife] prefers it that way. But just know we’re happy, period. That’s it.”
