Polish up your act
Of course, the benefit of being able to actually see the goal you’re shooting towards comes with the downside of regular cleaning.
New “no-rub” cleaning solutions have simplified that task, but just how effectively do they remove the deposits adhering to your lenses? Researchers at the Brien Holden Vision Institute in Sydney tested three cleaning regimens – rub and rinse, rinse only, and no rub and no rinse – with three types of cleaning solutions to see which method most effectively removed bacteria, yeast and mould from soft lenses. For all cleaning solutions, even so-called no-rub varieties, the rub and rinse method removed germs most effectively. So if you’re a clean freak, it looks like a good polish will still be part of your lens-cleaning routine.
