Melissa Gilbert Reacts to Megyn Kelly's Anti-Woke “Little House on the Prairie” Reboot Request: 'Watch Again'
The actress made sure to point out the various issues the original series tackled, including "racism, addiction, nativism," as she slammed Kelly's tweet
Melissa Gilbert will not stand for any Little House on the Prairie slander.
On Thursday, Jan. 30, the actress, 60, posted a statement in response to a tweet from Megyn Kelly reacting to the news about the Little House reboot coming to Netflix — and Gilbert did not hold back in her defense of the show that made her famous.
"Apparently Megyn tweeted (I’m not on that platform) asking that Netflix not 'woke-ify' their Little House remake. Umm…watch the original again. TV doesn't get too much more 'woke' than we did," Gilbert wrote on Instagram.
"We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other 'woke' topic you can think of. Thank you very much."
In the caption of the post, she encouraged Kelly, 54, to "watch any episode on any streaming platform anywhere in the world" of the original series, which ran from 1974 to 1983.
In Kelly's post on X, she shared a link to a story from The Hollywood Reporter about the Netflix reboot and directed her comment to the streamer: "If you wokeify Little House on the Prairie I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project."
The Netflix reboot, which was announced on Jan. 29, of the 19th-century period western series comes more than 40 years after the original series came to an end in 1983.
The new show will be "part hopeful, family drama, part epic survival tale and part origin story of the American West," per the streamer.
"This fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier."
The Boys and Vampire Diaries alum Rebecca Sonnenshine will serve as the showrunner and also executive produce alongside Joy Gorman Wettel, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel.
“Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” Jinny Howe, Netflix's Vice President, Drama Series said in a press release. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

The reboot news is particularly interesting given Karen Grassle, who played Gilbert's onscreen mom and husband to Michael Landon on the series, told PEOPLE in June of a potential reboot, "There have been lots of attempts to do a Little House on the Prairie again. There have been shows, there have been a musical, and I think we had a unique experience and it can't be repeated."
“I don't think you get to repeat this,” she said. “This is it. And fortunately, it was television so they can just keep running it.”
