Baby Sussex entered the world on May 6, but while it was first believed that new mum Meghan Markle had given birth at her Frogmore Cottage home, reports have now emerged that she was taken to hospital.

It’s understood that the Duchess of Sussex was driven from Windsor to a London hospital, most likely The Portland Hospital, on Sunday afternoon by Harry and their Scotland Yard security team, reports the Mail Online.

A ‘basic’ delivery at that hospital costs upwards of AU$28,000 (£15,000) at the private maternity hospital.

When Yahoo UK contacted The Portland Hospital, a spokeswoman said: “We are unable to confirm speculation about individuals who may or may not have been cared for at The Portland Hospital."

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on where Meghan gave birth and details were not included on the famous easel yesterday. The place of birth is likely to be confirmed on the birth certificate within 42 days.

The Duchess of York’s daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were both born at The Portland in 1988 and 1990, respectively.

Other notable royal births include Samuel and Arthur Chatto - the sons of Lady Sarah Chatto, who is Princess Margaret’s daughter.

David Armstrong-Jones’ wife Serena (Princess Margaret’s daughter-in-law) had their two children Viscount Linley and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones at The Portland.

It’s also where Victoria Beckham gave birth to sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Shortly after the birth announcement yesterday, Harry gave an interview within the grounds of Windsor Castle, saying he was ‘over the moon’ after the arrival of his child.

He said: “It was amazing, absolutely incredible. I’m so incredibly proud of my wife.

“And as every father and parent would say, your baby is absolutely amazing.”

The Duke and Duchess announced ahead of the birth that they wanted to keep details around the birth private and opted out of an initial photocall.

It is thought that the world will get the first glimpse of their baby son within the next few days - likely on Wednesday or Thursday.
