Mel Gibson, longtime action star and director of the new thriller movie Flight Risk, is staying active in Hollywood despite past indiscretions.
After a 2006 DUI arrest and anti-Semitic rant derailed his career, Gibson took a break from acting and movie-making. But he’s gotten back on the horse in recent years and even directed an Academy Award-winner in 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge.
“I am a member of [the] 12-step program and I achieved sobriety like that,” Gibson said on an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2016. At the time, he said he had 10 years of sobriety under his belt.

She is an adult, and we dig each other,” Gibson told The Mirror in 2016. “It might cause a problem and one has a trepidation about these things, but it’s working out great. Ross attended Emerson College, majoring in literature, and went on to become a screenwriter. She’s written for the TV drama Matador and directed and wrote the 2022 movie Father Stu (starring Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson). She is also involved in several projects still in production, Black Sam and Barbarian (the latter of which has been described as a "female Braveheart").
Aside from scriptwriting, Ross is also a notable equestrian. She competed as an equestrian vaulter and won a gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in 2010, according to Closer Weekly.

The pair met in 2014 when Ross was recruited by Gibson’s production company as a co-writer for a movie script. She was 23, and he was 58 at the time. Although they’re not married, their relationship has been going strong ever since.

Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have one child together, a son, named Lars Gerard Gibson. He was born in January 2017.
Leading up to Lars’s birth, a source told People, “Mel seems genuinely excited about the baby. It was a surprise, but Mel seems very happy. He says having kids is making him stay young. He loves being a dad.”

What happened during Mel Gibson’s controversial breakup with Oksana Grigorieva?
Gibson started dating Grigorieva shortly after his separation from his ex-wife, and they had a child together in 2009. But in early 2010, there was a domestic violence investigation against Gibson, and in July of that year six audiotapes were released where Gibson can be heard screaming profanity at Grigorieva, including the use of the n-word.
Although Grigorieva denied releasing the tapes, she reportedly lost out on a $500,000 settlement after speaking about the turbulent breakup on The Howard Stern Show.
Around the same time as the tapes leaked, Grigorieva filed a restraining order against Gibson, citing that he’d punched her in the face multiple times, breaking a tooth and giving her a concussion. Gibson denied this statement, but admitted in his own sworn statement, “I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality. I did not slap her hard. I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth.”
In 2011, Gibson pled no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and was sentenced to three years of probation, counseling and community service. He met Ross several years later.
