Jordan Drayton may perform in front of hundreds of people on the streets of Los Angeles each week, but the 5-year-old singer is hardly ever nervous, even when things don’t go quite as expected.

One time, while performing at the street fair in his town of Claremont, Calif., he was about to sing a song when, while holding the mic, his foot slipped off a ledge and he fell right down into some leaves. He didn’t know what to do; his tummy was hurting and his heart was racing. But he got back up and kept singing.

"My favorite part about performing on the street with people is that it just makes me happy, and it makes other people happy too," the musician tells PEOPLE exclusively. "They don't have to buy tickets to go see a show at a big place; they can just watch me in Claremont. I jump off that ledge, and I just remember doing that and daring myself to do it every time."

"I love doing it. I mean, it's the funnest thing ever, and I love it," the 5-year-old adds. "I just can't say how much fun."

Drayton, who goes by Jordan Sunshine on TikTok and Instagram, began singing when he was just 1 year old, and he loved it from the start. Not long after, he started taking voice lessons from Cheryl Porter and started dancing too. He remembers growing up, and one of his favorite memories is playing the ukulele with his grandpa.

Over the years, as his passion for music continued to grow, his mom, Kate Gammell, began taking him to the park near their house and set up a microphone for him to practice singing. From there, his street performances took off, and his audience grew, partially thanks to the videos Gammell shared of him on TikTok and Instagram, where Drayton has built a community of more than 662,000 followers and 352,000 followers, respectively.

"I just let Jordan be Jordan when he’s performing," Gammell says. "I’ll be like, ‘Jordan, we’re going to sing 'Imagine,’’ and he’ll be like, ‘No, I don’t want to sing 'Imagine,' Mom. No, put this on,’ and he’ll tell me what to play in front of the crowd. Then he’ll be like, ‘No, wait. Now this one.’ I’ll say, ‘But you don’t know the words.’ And he’ll be like, ‘No, I got it.’ And then he does it, right? It’s funny."

Among some of Drayton's favorite songs to perform are "La La La" by Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith, along with Disney's "You’ve Got a Friend in Me." Recently, Gammell shared a video of Jordan singing "La La La" on TikTok.

The video went viral, amassing more than 35 million views and 37,000 comments, including a special note from Sam Smith. "I’m so amazed that Sam commented on my 'La La La' video," Drayton, whose dad is rapper Flavor Flav says. "I loved that."

"It feels amazing. I just love all the people who support me," he adds. "I absolutely love everything, and I love singing."

The family shares how they've also obtained a work permit for Santa Monica so Drayton can start performing there for a change of atmosphere and scenery. However, Drayton still has big dreams. If it were up to him, he'd pick to perform at Legoland.

Gammell adds how when Drayton performs, they never put a cup out or ask for money. However, sometimes people still hand him cash, which he donates to charity.

"He's been doing this for a long, long, long, long time since he was little and he practices a lot," Gammell says. "He loves it. So he's doing a lot of piano, drums, singing, and he does it for a long time during the day. He really, really enjoys it."

As for the future, Drayton's family is excited to see where his music journey takes him with both his music career, along with acting. While Drayton, who's currently homeschooled, is focused on perfecting his craft and adding new covers to his repertoire, he's also working on a rap song and looking forward to when Porter will have the time to help him create original music.

“We're waiting for the right time,” says Gammell. “She keeps telling me that there’s a right time for everything, so we’re not rushing. For now, he’s enjoying singing covers and adding more to his list. He has about 10 covers he knows already, and he keeps adding new ones like 'Yesterday.' He loves EDM and dance songs, so you’ll hear a lot of that from him, too.”

The proud mom continues, "I think Jordan's going to make such an impact on this world."
