McDonald’s Fans Divided Over Popular Menu Hack That Some Say ‘Looks Nasty’

True Wendy’s fans have known for years that if you dip a french fry into a Frosty, you can experience a delicious salty and sweet treat.

Some McDonald’s aficionados have tried to emulate that same flavor with their own off-menu hack, but reviews are more mixed than for the fries/Frosty combo.

The hack in question sandwiches a dollop of McFlurry between two hash browns from the McDonald's breakfast menu, combining vanilla ice cream, chocolate by way of M&Ms or Oreo cookie crumbles, and the potato side dish.

Food blogger Snackolator shared a photo of the mashup on Instagram, reporting that the combination, which started in Australia, is so popular in places like Singapore that the fast food giant “was actually promoting this trend and gave out 50 free Hash Brown McFlurry sandwiches at each restaurant to try.”

Fans chimed in about the combination in the comments, writing that they were either on board with “The perfect combination of Salty and Sweet,” or stating, “nah gang I'm good 💀.”

A commenter said it “looks nasty,” while another stated that they’d rather go the DIY route and shared they “might have to go to the store and get hash browns and some ice cream” to try it out at home.

One person proclaimed disbelief about the trend, asking, “It has to be April 1st, right? 🗓️👀.”

Some fans took a different approach, noting that “Even if it does taste good, which I severely doubt” they wouldn’t be able to try it because the “ice cream machine never works.”

Last month, Wendy’s took a jab directly at the ice cream machine troubles at McDonald’s, trolling its competitor by teaming up with McBroken.com, a website that tracks where and when a McDonald's ice cream machine breaks down, and sharing a video of a Frosty Fix truck pulling up in front of a McDonald's restaurant.

The marketing strategy was to promote their new $1 Frosty deal, but fans immediately clocked the shade, saying “Wendy could be a Real Housewife,” calling Wendy’s “the ice cream gangster,” and opining that “wendy's bringin tha HEAT 😮‍💨.”
