Matty Healy's Mom Denise Welch Jokes She 'Wasn't Aware' Taylor Swift Had a New Album Out: 'I Wish Her All the Best'
Matty Healy is thought to be the inspiration for much of Taylor Swift's new album 'The Tortured Poets Department'
More than 1 billion people streamed Taylor Swiftâs The Tortured Poets Department upon its release last week â but Matty Healyâs mom was not one of them.
Denise Welch revealed on her British talk show Loose Women that she was not in the loop when it came to Swiftâs latest album, but that she wished her sonâs ex well.
âI wasnât aware she had an album out at all,â Welch joked on Thursday, April 25 amid prodding from her co-panelists. âI havenât heard anything about it.â
Welch, 65, then laughed an awkward laugh and said, âAnyway, I wish her all the best.â
The actress and TV personalityâs response comes one day after Healy, 35, was approached by paparazzi in Los Angeles and was asked how heâd ârateâ his âTaylor diss trackâ as compared to others.

âMy diss track? Oh!â a confused Healy replied before laughing. âI havenât really listened to that much of it, but Iâm sure itâs good.â
Swift, 34, released The Tortured Poets Department on April 19, and though The 1975 frontman is not mentioned by name, many of the songs appear to be written about their brief romance last spring.
Swift has previously met Welch at least once before, as Welch shared a photo to Instagram in January 2023 with the star on the same night that Swift made a surprise appearance at The 1975 concert in Londonâs O2 arena. That night, she performed âAnti-Heroâ live for the first time, and also covered The 1975âs 2013 single âThe City.â
She and Healy stepped out publicly with their romance in May 2023, though they were broken up by June. She is now dating NFL superstar Travis Kelce, while Healy is dating model Gabbriette Bechtel.
The âAbout Youâ singerâs aunt Debbie Dedes previously told The Daily Mail that she didnât think Healy would be bothered by the new music.
âShe writes about all her relationships, doesnât she? I donât think it will come as a shock to him at all,â Dedes, who is Welch's sister, said. âHeâs very happy in his new relationship so Iâm sure he will be focusing on that.â
Though the lyrics of Swiftâs songs remain up for interpretation, she included several overt references to Healy, like on the song âGuilty as Sin?,â in which she sings of someone sending her the 1989 synth-pop song âThe Downtown Lightsâ by the band The Blue Nile.
Healy has previously called The Blue Nile his âfavorite band of all time,â and has also said that âThe Downtown Lightsâ was the inspiration for The 1975 song âLove It If We Made It.â
