Matthew Perry's cause of death revealed after shock passing at 54
The Friends star was found unresponsive in his home in October.
Matthew Perry’s cause of death has been revealed following his shock passing at the age of 54 in late October.
The actor, who was most well-known for his role as Chandler Bing in Friends, was found unresponsive in his home in LA after an apparent drowning in his jacuzzi.
The toxicology report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has now revealed that Matthew died from “the acute effects of ketamine”.
His death has been ruled as an accident with contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder.

According to TMZ, Matthew’s body wasn't waterlogged when first responders arrived at his LA home, meaning he hadn't been in his hot tub for long before his assistant found him and called 911.
She found the actor underwater and attempted to lift his head up to try and get him some air, and he was pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters lifted him from the water.
Matthew had been playing pickleball earlier in the day, a sport he enjoyed and often played for hours at a time, but he left after one hour on Saturday saying he was more "fatigued" than usual.
There were no illegal drugs found at his home, however, law enforcement sources told TMZ that they found multiple prescription drugs including "antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs and a COPD drug".
The World Health Organisation states that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung disease that causes restricted airflow and breathing problems. It is most often caused by smoking and puts sufferers at a higher risk of other health problems.
Friends cast share joint tribute
Friends stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc and David Schwimmer broke their silence on Matthew's shocking death with a joint statement to People in October.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” they said.
“There is so much to say, but right now, we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time, we will say more, as and when we are able.
“For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
The cast reunited last month to mourn Matthew’s passing at his funeral at the Forest Lawn Church of the Hills in Los Angeles.
