Tonight’s The Bachelor Australia kicked off with a bang, and Matt Agnew proved his season is full of surprises, when he sprung one on the 2019 contestants.

This year one lucky lady gets to accompany the astrophysicist to his home town of Melbourne, an opportunity to learn a whole lot more about the eligible hunk, and of course get cosy with him in the process.

“This golden ticket is an incredible advantage because if you hold it, you get to accompany Matt on a date, but it’s not just any date,” host Osher Gunsberg told the ladies at the mansion during tonight’s premiere episode.

“This golden ticket is the ticket to Matt’s hometown of Melbourne. Think about that, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to get a real look at what a future with Matt could look like.

“But who gets to go? That all depends on how well you get along with Matt.”

Cue the claws as everyone tried to get some one-on-one time with Matt before he made his big decision.

Ultimately, it was 24-year-old Elly whose marshmallow trick at the start worked an absolute charm.

“You give me butterflies,” Matt confessed to her, adding, it “feels like we’ve known each other for a very long time”.

Of course the reality star accepted not only the golden ticket, but the first rose of the season, and told producers, “I’m so excited”.

The Bachelor continues on Thursday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine.
