MasterChef's Reynold Poernomo faces 'angry' backlash over pasta post: 'Wasn't even cooked'

Reynold's 'ravioli' Instagram snap drew the wrath of the internet.

He may be one of the most loved contestants to have ever appeared on MasterChef Australia, but even Reynold Poernomo isn’t exempt from the wrath of the internet.

The 30-year-old is currently holidaying in Italy, appearing to be attending a friend's wedding in the stunning Lake Como area.

However, one of his most recent posts on Instagram didn’t go down too well with everybody, after he shared a picture of a dish of pasta alongside the caption: “These raviolis. No no no no… How am I the only one that feels like this is wrongly done. As a non-Italian.”

The snap showed a plate of pasta which if we’re honest, looked delicious to us. But the foodies didn’t appear to agree, with Reynold revealing in a subsequent post that people were “angry”.

“OK I got some angry responses with my pasta post,” he wrote.

“For context, yes, they are tortellini, exactly. On the menu it said “Ravioli”. Plus! The sage wasn’t even cooked… the intensity of the raw sage was too pungent. I’m YET to have an amazing pasta experience here in Italy. “

Reynold’s quest for the perfect plate of pasta did however come to fruition, as he later shared a post showing two different plates of the scrumptious-looking Italian dish.

“Finally! Wow actually perfecto,” he wrote.

Reynold shot to fame in Australia when he came fourth on the 2015 season of MasterChef , quickly becoming dubbed the country’s ‘Dessert King’.

He went on to open up his own dessert bar, called KOI with his mother and brothers. He returned in 2020 for MasterChef: Back To Win but came in third place, beaten to the post by Emelia Jackson and Laura Sharrad.

Reynold is set to grace our screens again this year for Channel 10’s Dessert Masters, alongside Anna Polyviou, Adriano Zumbo and judges Melissa Leong and Amaury Guichon.
