MasterChef's Poh Ling Yeow shares wild throwback snap
"I felt wild with wanting to be desired."
Celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow has wowed fans with an epic throwback snap from nearly 30 years ago, describing a time of 'rebellion' in her youth as she was learning to discover her identity.
The MasterChef star found an old photo and shared it with her followers with some reflective words as she reminisced from the era of her early 20s.
"Just found this in a basket of plastic string in Aunty Kim’s McGyver cave. I have a shocking memory but roughy this look is circa 1995 (so I’m around 20-21) and yes that’s my real hair which I used to curl with old-school rags, because back then you couldn’t just grab a hairpiece from Temu for $10 but even if I could, I woulda been busy saving to scoot back to Utah so I could find me a Mormon husband and procreate asap 😂. Fate had other plans," she said in the caption.
"This was the soundtrack of the era - probs a bit telling of my recent return from OS where I had my cherry popped by, let's just say every mother’s nightmare, got my belly pierced, never witnessed such joyous multiculturalism and my bestie was trans.
"It was a time of rebellion, immense turmoil and philosophical change. I felt wild with wanting to be desired, and although I wasn’t a model church member, I spent most of this period cowering from my truth and feeling like a despicable sinner," she continued.

"Despite all this, the goal was still to get back on track and contort myself into the wholesome mould I believed would give me the stillness & acceptance I craved. Just a small part of a story that reminds me how I earned my 50 years and how much youth kinda sucked 😂! Happy Friday, folks! Ps. Long live the hoops!"
Needless to say, she left fans and friends intrigued by her throwback story.
"I want to hear more (ALL) of this story," podcaster Yumi Stynes commented. "What a story, would read more," Aussie singer Ella Hooper commented.
"You need to write your memoir!" one fan commented.
"Your story sounds hauntingly familiar! The guilt placed on us as young things sucked! It stripped away so much of the joy we should have been feeling in all our glorious 'firsts' at that age," another follower said. "Here’s to turning 52 this year, being recently separated and loving myself and the skin I’m in."
