MasterChef’s Tilly Ramsay claps back at host who called her ‘chubby’

Not only is Tilly Ramsay the 19-year-old daughter of world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, she’s also a social media superstar, a BAFTA-nominated TV presenter and an excellent responder to trolls.

The Celebrity MasterChef contestant, who is also currently competing on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK, took to Instagram on Wednesday to call out a radio presenter who had criticised her appearance.

UK DJ Steve Allen called Tilly a “chubby little thing” on his breakfast show when discussing her recent reality TV appearances, adding, “probably her dad’s cooking, I should imagine”.

Shortly after, Tilly posted a lengthy statement on social media responding to Steve and encouraged people to be kind to one another.

“I try not to read and listen to comments and negativity, however, recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far,” she began.

“Steve please feel free to voice your opinions, however, I draw the line at commenting on my appearance. It’s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.

“This isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I’m learning to accept myself. But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19.

“I’m so grateful for all the amazing opportunities I have been able to take part in and I understand that being in the public eye obviously comes with its own repercussions and I’ve been aware of this from a young age.

“However, I won’t tolerate people that think it’s OK to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance.”

A number of Tilly’s followers were quick to reply to her social media post, including her fellow Celebrity MasterChef cast members.

“What a sad, backward man,” Chrissie Swan commented. “You know your power, my girl. It’s growing and was never in doubt. Love you to the moon and back.”

Rebecca Gibney added: “Let me at him! Seriously? That guy needs a good kick up the bum. You are a brilliant bright shining star - beautiful dancer, wondrous cook, exceptional human. And wise beyond your years. Always remember for that one dim-witted twat - there are millions who adore you. Keep killing it sweetheart - Australia loves you too.”

Dami Im remarked that Tilly is “beautiful inside and out”, while judge Melissa Leong said that she “handled this ugliness with grace”.

Jock Zonfrillo wrote that he was “actually speechless” when he heard the radio presenter’s comments, and commended her for calling him out.

Contestants Collette Dinnigan, Archie Thompson and Nick Riewoldt also shared supportive words amongst the 17,000 comments the post has racked up at the time of writing.
