Marlon Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans — April 2012With a family as big as the Wayans, sometimes things can get a bit crazy in the group chat.
Speaking to PEOPLE exclusively about Marlon Wayans’ Poppa’s House debut on his brother Damon Wayans Sr.’s CBS sitcom, the White Chicks alum, 52, hilariously recalled a time a stranger found their way into the family’s private convo.
“I muted one,” Damon, 64, admitted of their many conversations.
“There's like four of them because there's always one person that's like, ‘Please just get me the hell out of here,’ ” Marlon told PEOPLE. “Damon’s daughter Kyla [Wayans] was trapped in one of our group chats, and she was so mad, and we just kept texting just because we know it [gets] on her nerves.”

“Well, the thing is, we got people on the East Coast and people on the West Coast, so it's different time zones,” the Major Payne star explained. “And then chiming in on something that we thought had come to closure, and then they get the text, and now they want to join in on the comedy, and it's just like, ‘Yo.’ I got like four of them muted, with like 192 messages.”
However, Marlon has his older brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, 66, to thank for how a complete stranger made his way into the private chat.
“Then people change their numbers. So Keenan changed his number. Some new person got Keenan's number,” Marlon told PEOPLE.

For Marlon’s Poppa’s House appearance, art imitates life as he plays the younger brother of Damon Sr. (Poppa), but as a character named Melvin.
“I love begging Damon for work,” Marlon joked of how the Poppa’s House cameo came about. “No, I called him. I wanted to do his show. My brother is on TV. I like to support my brother."
The episode aired Monday, March 24, titled "Melvin," and followed "Poppa’s smooth-talking brother" as he "rolls into town with a shady new get-rich-quick scheme," per a synopsis.

Poppa's House — Marlon Wayans as Melvin, Damon Wayans Jr. as Junior“I think it's a natural fit,” Damon added of their family working together.
Damon’s son, Damon Wayans Jr., is also on the sitcom, and sister Kim Wayans, 63, served as the director.
And as Damon Sr. puts it, Kim is the only one who can keep Marlon focused.
“We hired Kim to direct this only because she's the only director that can check Marlon and get him to just, to focus. His lack of focus is part of his brain. But we are making a show, and it's only 22 minutes long, so we need to bring in the big guns. Because Kim with a whistle go, ‘Marlon,’ and he go, ‘All right,’” Damon told PEOPLE.
Poppa's House airs Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
