Mark Withers, 'Stranger Things' and 'Dynasty' Actor, Dead at 77

Mark Withers, a longtime television actor with roles on Stranger Things, Dynasty, and many more, has died. He was 77.

Withers died Friday, Nov. 22, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. His daughter, Jessie Withers, confirmed the news on Friday, Dec. 6, making a heartfelt statement about her dad's legacy.

"He confronted his illness with the same strength and dignity he brought to his craft, creating a legacy of warmth, humor, and dedication, along with his remarkable ability to make every role unforgettable," Jessie said in a statement obtained by Variety on Friday. "Mark’s enduring talent and commitment to the industry will be fondly remembered by colleagues, friends, and fans alike."

Withers was known for playing Ted Dinard in the original Dynasty series. He also appeared in over 20 episodes of the crime drama series Kaz.

Other TV appearances from Withers in the '80s and '90s include roles on Trapper John, M.D., Magnum, P.I., The Dukes of Hazzard, Divorce Court, L.A. Law, Matlock, and several episodes of Days of Our Lives.

He would also go on to appear in episodes of Frasier, The King of Queens, Criminal Minds, True Blood, and Castle, among many other minor roles.

One of his most recent TV appearances was on Season 1 of Netflix's Stranger Things, where he played the role of Gary, a coroner at the local morgue in Hawkins.

More of his more recent credits over the past decade include work on Reckless, Work from Home and Sense8.

In addition to his daughter, Withers is survived by his wife, Haiyan Liu Withers.
