Tampon Company Teams Up With Charity To Help Victims Of Domestic Violence

They're something most of us ladies use month-in, month-out, but did you know by using your tampons you can help raise awareness for domestic violence?

Tampon company Cottons have teamed up with non-profit organisation Share the Dignity to help woman gain access to help placing the 1800RESPECT number on the inside of their tampon packaging.

The campaign aims to provide the reach for the vital service to women who might not know how to go about getting the help they need.

"We figured maybe a woman might see it once, ten times or a hundred times before they called, but at least they would know just where to call and that may just help a woman in need," Share The Dignity wrote on Facebook. "Men don't ever look there, and it's pretty simple right?"

Share The Dignity went on to recall an encounter between founder Rochelle Courtenay and a homeless woman, who inspired the idea after discovered the woman had no idea services such as 1800RESPECT existed.

Rochelle and other volunteers had a box of pads and tampons at an event which were free for anyone who needed them to take. Rochelle met a beautiful lady, who was in disbelief that she could help herself to these products. She went on to tell Rochelle that her period had started that day. She lived in her car due to some serious challenges in life recently. She didn't have enough money to help her through her period and she only had one tampon. The one tampon she did have, she found on the floor of a public bathroom. She was in tears with gratitude (as was Rochelle at the end of the encounter).

We women must help each other. We must have each other's backs. No woman should suffer indignity of this kind. The simple act of donating a packet of pads and tampons provides a hygienic way for vulnerable and at risk ladies to deal with periods. It gives dignity, hope, and the knowledge that they're not forgotten. We can't have our women demoralised in this way. If we, the community, don't help them who will? Please spare a thought for this in April, your kind donations are appreciated more than you can imagine.
