In an interview with the BBC about her representation of jailed Azerbaijani reporter Khadija Ismayilova, Human Rights Lawyer and all-around awesome Amal Clooney also gave us an insight her thoughts on the US presidential election.

Clooney says she believed this election is "very critical, perhaps more than in many other elections that have happened for a very long time," and says she is 'perplexed' by the success of Donald Trump's candidacy,

"When you listen to what the leading candidate on the Republican side has been saying about building walls, about excluding Mexicans, and saying there has to be a complete shutdown on all Muslims coming in."

"If you actually look at what he specifically says in that now infamous speech about Muslims, he kept saying, 'They only want jihad; they don't believe in our way of life; they don't respect our system.' And when he says 'they' ... And, you know, you watch the media coverage afterwards and people should've been saying, 'Do you mean the 1.5 billion people around the world who fit that description? Do you mean the people who are U.S. citizens, who are members of your military, the vast majority of whom are not extremist or violent in any way?'"

Amal, whose husband George Clooney is an avid Hillary supporter, hinted that she might hold a similar view.

"We're still dealing with the primary season and not the full election," she said. "If at the end of all of this he gets beaten by the person who becomes the first female president of the United States, then I think that would send a very positive message from the electorate back to him as to what they really think of those points of view.

"I don't think they're U.S. values," she added.

Go Amal!
