Selena Gomez Reveals She Sought Therapy After Hurtful Body Shaming

Earlier this year, Selena Gomez was the victim of cruel taunts over her weight after photos of her looking 'curvier' hit the internet.

"I'd land at the airport and people would yell out, 'You're fat!'" It was awful," she revealed to Us Weekly.

Things got so bad in fact that she ended up seeking professional help, "I've been working in therapy," she added.

Selena Gomez received hurtful comments over her weight, but posted this snap letting them all know she's happy just the way she is. "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove," she wrote. Photo: Instagram

"This was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body. Even if I did gain weight, I'm fine. That's what the [Instagram] picture represents. I don't want them [the critics] to win. It's not fair for them to try to control my life."

"I want to be heard, and I don't want people to see those comments and think they can bring people down, because it's not right."

Following the release of new album Revivial, on which she appears almost completely naked, the 23-year-old opened up about the hurtful comments.

"You have to understand that I dealt with a lot of body shaming this year and I've never experienced that before," she told 'The Cruz Show' during a radio interview.

"I don't care about that stuff, but I did start gaining weight, and I didn't really mind it...Man, that hurt. That was really hurtful. Because I've experienced people who have tried to control that kind of stuff before, and I didn't care. This is my time. I want to do it the way I want to do it," she added.

"It's not even about my weight. It's just that I'm not going to give a f--k what people say—sorry!" she continued.

"I'm not going to let them get to me. I can do what I want. I'm not doing that all the time. It's beautiful. It represents that it's bare. I don't want diamonds and things all over me for the cover, and really thick makeup. I wanted it natural, so...geez!"
