New Television Show Dedicated Entirely To Lip Sync Battles

The people have spoken, and they want more lip sync battles. The popular segment on American talk show host Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show (you might remember Emma Stone breaking the internet last year with her interpretation of DJ Khaled’s ‘All I Do Is Win’) has now spiralled off into its own show, hosted by none other than hip hop luminary and occasional NCIS detective LL Cool J.
The format stays pretty true to the segment popularised by Fallon: two celebrities attempt to out-lip sync each other, using outrageous costumes and dance moves. The first trailer for the TV show has been released, revealing that the guests that the show has so far roped in are very A-list. Jimmy Fallon makes an appearance, of course, along with Anna Kendrick, John Legend (whose wife Chrissy Teigen is a co-host of the show), John Krasinski and, the piece de la resistance, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson lip-syncing to Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’.
The scale of the show is considerably bigger than its previous incarnations: when Jimmy Fallon takes on Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ in the first episode of the series, he has a 20-person choir behind him. Actor John Krasinki, who chooses Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’ for his battle against Anna Kendrick, strips off his suit to reveal a fringed silver lame dress (worn fetchingly with his socks and lace-up brogues).
But the best moment from the trailer has to be Anna Kendrick, who we already know is a pitch perfect singer (see what we did there?), but who is also clearly a great lip syncer, too. Kendrick takes on Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Booty’ – a venerable pop anthem of our time – and is joined by Jenny from the Block herself at the end of the song.
