Age and wisdom are the new black this season, with women from all walks and periods of life picking up some of fashion’s biggest campaigns. There was Charlotte Rampling at NARS, original supermodels Stephanie Seymour and Brooke Shields at Barney’s New York, 70s’ icon Joni Mitchell for Saint Laurent and Linda Rodin for The Row.

Now, the original and the best – 93-year-old Iris Apfel, American interior designer and businesswoman – has picked up a campaign of her own, starring front and centre in Kate Spade’s ads alongside 22-year-old model Karlie Kloss.

Apfel, who will be the focus of a new documentary from Grey Gardens director Albert Maysles, is a fashion icon and favourite within the industry. In the campaign, shot by Emma Summerton, both Apfel and Kloss pose in the full suite of Kate Spade designs (Handbags and accessories, clothing and footwear) in Central Park. An obliging older gentlemen and a set of redhead twins (and in one picture, a duck), round out the representation of a picture-perfect New York summer.

Is this brilliant? You bet it is. Keep these advanced style-themed campaigns coming, fashion.
